Family Support Team

What is Waterford Country School’s Family Support Team Program?

Waterford Country School’s Family Support Team (FST) is an important component in the agency’s commitment to providing community programs for at-risk children. The FST program is designed to provide in home support to all of our Treatment Foster homes and to biological families who are struggling with children who have serious emotional and behavioral problems. A caseworker is assigned to the family and child to assist with issues in the home, help with transportation, attend community meetings, and act as a mentor to the client.  A clinician or therapist is also assigned and provides individual and family therapy in the home or in our offices. Clients also receive the services of a psychiatrist and an APRN who are part of the Family Support Team.

Who are the Children and Families Served by the Family Support Team?

All of our Treatment Foster Homes receive the services of the Family Support Team when a child is placed in their home. The Team typically stays involved for up to one year depending on the child’s progress. Our Family Support Team also works with biological families who are struggling with children in their home.

How are Clients Selected?

The Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) refer families to the Family Support Team.
